Wahkhen, Meghalaya

Wahkhen, a remote beautiful Lush Green Village in Meghalaya which is more known as Base Village for Bamboo Trail to Mawrynkhang Rock.

Many enthusiastic, adventitious trekkers want to visit wahkhen for the Bamboo trail trek but mostly they are unaware the Serenity of Wahkhen village as its being little more inside, approx. 5 to 6 km from the trek point.

Wahkhen is settled on up and down landscape of Wahkhen valley, 

so to walk in different locations of wahkhen one has to walk upstairs or down stairs. 

Its such a calm and beautiful feeling while walking by pathways in this village.

One can explore and feel much Biodiversity of different plants like Ginger, Turmeric, Orange, Papaya, pineapple, banana etc. 

Wahkhen also will surprise visitors to Meghalaya, when they would see Mango Trees also in Wahkhen Village.

And off course Wahkhen also has beetle nut tress, as seen in other part of Meghalaya.

Wahkhen is that origin in Meghalaya from where whistling practice to call individual instead of Names actually has originated. 

So we can say it as The Whistling Village.

Wahkhen is also has good legacy of music and has its own School of Traditional Music named Siengriti Wahkhen

which is interesting to visit on Sundays when singing classes are conducted for locals,

and different music is practiced.

Its proud feel for villagers as some of the practitioners also got awarded Nationally by Sangeet Natak Academy in Delhi.

Apart from Bamboo Trail to Mawrynkhang, while being in Wahkhen one get also opportunity to visit one Living Root Bridge in Wahkhen Valley by approx 1.5 to 2 hrs of trek and beautiful water Stream here.

Also one can do one more trek in Wahkhen Valley which is Trek to Suspension Bridge.

One more interesting fact in Wahkhen one can see is, many Chicken with beautiful bright colours. 

There are also Stay options getting slowly developed in Wahkhen, where one can stay and explore around and experience this beautiful place.
